Christian Camps: Helping Your Child Grow in Their Faith
As a Christian parent, you know that living in today’s society and culture is very difficult when it comes to raising your children. Between the noise and messaging thrown at your children through various mediums such as school, sports teams, social media, friends, and others, it isn’t easy to fully monitor and shelter them from things they are not ready to hear or see. It can seem like such a daunting task that you sometimes feel the need to go to extremes to make sure that the values and beliefs that don’t align with your own aren’t able to find their way to the impressionable minds of your young children.
It often leaves you wondering if safe environments are left outside your home or inner circle of friends and family. It’s not as if you never want your child to have fun or experience new things. Of course you do. You want to ensure they are surrounded by truth and good values that align with your own. So, do any such places still exist outside your church building? The good news is that, yes, they do. One is Christian summer camp.
While not all Christian summer camps are created equal, many of the choices out there do still align with biblical values that teach your child the truth while at the same time providing them with a fun and safe environment to explore, grow in their faith, and have a grand adventure that will make many lasting memories.
These camps work extremely hard throughout the summer and off-season to plan and prepare to help correctly and biblically shape the minds of your young kids. They often encourage parents to get involved in as many ways as possible, including getting to know the staff, reading about what their child is learning at camp, and even having family days throughout the year on the grounds to provide a fun activity involving the entire family.
The camp leaders strive to make sure that you are comfortable with where their child is attending and excited to send them because you know the positive impact it will have on their physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. They make sure to vet every person who walks through their doors because they know that these staff workers will be working the closest with the kids. The leaders want to be sure that the counselors and other staff are like-minded in their thinking and will help the child’s growth and not be a hindrance.
These camps also spend countless hours planning out what biblical lessons they want to teach your child throughout camp and plan fun activities to help support what they are learning. Often, they will bring in a guest speaker who is known to be solid in their faith and is an effective communicator so that they will engage your kids and help them open their eyes to scripture in new and exciting ways.
All in all, the main goal of Christian camps is to help your child grow stronger in their faith. They want to leave your child better than when they came in, and they take that responsibility seriously. They, too, know the battle that is going on for your child’s mind, and they want to do everything they can to come alongside you in this journey to help your child grow closer to Christ and your family as a whole. So the next time you’re wondering if there are any safe places left you can trust with your child’s spiritual well being, look into your local Christian summer camps. What you find may surprise you.
